I have great friends. Seriously. At this very second I'm simply sitting on a chair in the family room, while two of my roommates are lounging on the couches. I'm blogging, Kyra is reading, Teesha is doing homework on her laptop. I have some music playing and if I listen carefully I think I can hear Teesha whisper-singing along. How lucky am I?
Last year (my freshman year at BYU) I had the BEST roommates and friends a girl could ask for. We got along great, had terrific memories, and we couldn't wait to live together again this year. Well life is a constantly changing journey, and their journeys took them across the world and away from me. One went to California, one to Denmark, and one to Brazil--all on missionaries for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. We still email/write but I do miss them terribly. Well I found myself coming back to BYU this year without roommates, and definitely not knowing what I was getting myself into. I was nervous about rooming with new people, and especially because I was moving into a 6 person apartment. Luckily, I couldn't have gotten a better bunch of girls.
It's quite amazing to me that six young adult females can live in a tiny three bedroom apartment functionally (and quite enjoyably I might add), while juggling the stressful life of dating, work, and school that comes with college. Yet, despite all of our differences and faults (it's me who has the faults), we get along so well. I'm not saying we're perfect--we definitely aren't--but we get pretty darn close. The other night one of my roommates and I were doing homework in the living room. When I say "night" I mean it's 2 in the morning. Well we started talking about the most random and weird things. Even though the conversation was going a mile a minute in a million different directions, we both were following along, giggling, and having the best time.
I thank my Heavenly Father daily for my friends, and not just my roommates. I have been blessed with great people in my life. I have friends here at school, I have friends back in Arkansas from high school, I have TONS of friends who make up my extended family, friends who are younger than me, friends who are older, honestly I could go on and on. The people in my life have helped make me who I am today, and they are a lot part of my happiness. I don't know what I would do without any of them.
The one that went to Denmark is having a great time also ! Good luck at school !! Gramps
